IMMIGRANT RIGHTS
Sherine was lead counsel challenging SB4 to stand up against State of Texas’ overreach and for local control of detention processes.
INNOVATIVE REFORM
Sherine’s creative and sound legal guidance has allowed Travis County to be at the forefront of innovative reforms and policies while maintaining the Travis County’s legal obligations and duties. She helped create and defend progressive policies on criminal justice reform, elections, and the environment.
LGBTQIA+ RIGHTS
Sherine led the team advising and litigating on behalf of Travis County clerk’s and the issuance of same-sex marriage licenses – the first in the State of Texas.
PANDEMIC RESPONSE
During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sherine not only led the legal team in litigation successfully defending against the State of Texas’s overreach into Travis County’s pandemic response, she worked tirelessly on Travis County’s unprecedented provision of vaccinations and in getting the County’s more than 5,000 employees back to work in a healthy and effective manner.
PROTECTING The environment
When Hamilton Pool was polluted by developers, Sherine took the lead for Travis County in negotiating a collective settlement totaling $3.5 million dollars with almost $2.1 million dollars going to Travis County.
Not only is still this the highest settlement amount received by Travis County for an environmental case of this kind, this settlement allowed for an unprecedented cleanup of the creek and Hamilton Pool.
